Most stars lie on the main sequence of the Hertzsprung-Russell (HR) diagram.

This diagonal band running from the upper left (hot and luminous) to the lower right (cool and faint) represents stars that are fusing hydrogen into helium in their cores. This is the longest and most stable phase of a star's life.
