  • Which Planet Would You Encounter on a Direct Trip to the Sun?
If you leave Earth and travel directly towards the Sun, you wouldn't encounter any planets on your journey.

    Here's why:

    * The planets orbit the Sun in a plane: The planets in our solar system all orbit the Sun in roughly the same plane, called the ecliptic plane. Earth also orbits within this plane.

    * Direct path to the Sun: If you travel directly towards the Sun, you would be moving perpendicular to the plane of the planets' orbits.

Therefore, you would be traveling through the space between the planets and not encounter any on your path to the Sun.
