  • Meteor Colors: Why Do Meteors Appear Different Colors?
    Meteors don't have a single, specific color. The color of a meteor depends on a few factors:

    * Composition: Different elements in the meteoroid burn at different temperatures, producing different colors. For example, sodium produces a bright yellow, magnesium a bright white, and iron a reddish-orange.

    * Speed: The faster the meteor is moving, the hotter it gets, and the more colors it may exhibit.

    * Atmospheric conditions: The density and composition of the air can also influence the color of a meteor.

    Common meteor colors and their associated elements:

    * Yellow: Sodium

    * White: Magnesium

    * Green: Nickel

    * Blue: Copper

    * Red: Iron

    * Violet: Calcium

    So, the next time you see a meteor streak across the sky, try to notice its color and think about the elements it might be made of!
