  • Pluto's Orbit: Did the Dwarf Planet Ever Get Closer to the Sun Than Neptune?
    From 1979 to 1999, Pluto was closer to the sun than Neptune.

    This might seem counterintuitive because we typically think of Pluto as the outermost planet. However, Pluto's orbit is highly elliptical, and for a period of time, it actually crosses Neptune's orbit.
