  • Origin of the Sun and Planets: From Giant Molecular Clouds - A Scientific Explanation
Astronomers generally agree that the matter in the Sun and its planets came from a giant molecular cloud.

Here's a breakdown of the process:

    * Giant Molecular Clouds: These are vast, cold, and dense clouds of gas and dust that exist in interstellar space.

    * Gravitational Collapse: Over time, regions within these clouds become denser due to gravity. This density eventually triggers a gravitational collapse, pulling more and more matter inwards.

    * Protostar Formation: As the cloud collapses, it heats up, forming a protostar at its center. The protostar continues to grow by accreting more matter from the surrounding cloud.

    * Planetary Disk Formation: The remaining material in the cloud flattens out into a rotating disk around the protostar, which will eventually form the planets.

This process, known as star and planet formation, is a continuous cycle throughout the universe, leading to the creation of new stars and planetary systems.
