  • Cloudy Nights: Why They're Not as Dark as You Think
It's a bit of a misconception to say it's "bright" during a cloudy night. It's actually darker than a clear night! Here's why:

    * Clouds block light: Clouds are made of water droplets or ice crystals. These reflect and scatter light, but they also absorb a significant amount of light. This means less light from the moon and stars reaches the ground.

    * Light pollution: In urban areas, artificial light from streetlights, buildings, and other sources can make it seem brighter even on cloudy nights. This is because the light reflects off the clouds, creating a diffuse glow.

So, while it might seem brighter than a clear, moonless night due to light pollution reflecting off the clouds, a cloudy night is actually much darker than a clear night.
