  • First Moon Landing: A Historical Timeline of Spacecraft & Humans
The first spacecraft to land on the Moon was Luna 2, a Soviet probe, which landed on September 14, 1959.

However, it's important to note that Luna 2 was not a controlled landing. It crashed into the Moon's surface.

The first spacecraft to make a controlled landing on the Moon was Luna 9, also a Soviet probe, which landed on February 3, 1966.

The first manned landing on the Moon was by the Apollo 11 mission, on July 20, 1969.
