  • The Moon's Visibility: Why It Appears Bright (and What If It Didn't?)
If the Moon didn't reflect sunlight, it would be completely invisible to us. Here's why:

    * The Moon doesn't emit its own light: Unlike stars, which produce their own light through nuclear fusion, the Moon is a large, rocky body.

    * We see the Moon because it reflects sunlight: The sunlight that hits the Moon's surface bounces back towards Earth, allowing us to see it.

Without sunlight reflecting off its surface, the Moon would be a dark, silent object in the sky. We wouldn't be able to see it at all.
