  • Understanding Moon Craters: Why Are They Visible From Earth?
You can see the craters on the Moon from Earth because:

    * The Moon has no atmosphere: This means there is no weather to erode the craters, and no air to scatter light and obscure them.

    * The craters are large: Many of the craters on the Moon are miles wide and very deep, making them easily visible from Earth.

    * The Moon reflects sunlight: The craters are illuminated by the sun, making them stand out against the Moon's dark surface.

    * Earth is relatively close to the Moon: Although the Moon is a long way away, it is the closest celestial body to Earth, making it easier to see its surface details.

It's important to note: We can only see the craters on the Moon's near side, the side that always faces Earth. The far side of the Moon has craters too, but we can't see them from Earth.
