  • Identifying the North Star: Ursa Major and its Pointer Stars
The constellation that points to the North Star (Polaris) is Ursa Major, also known as the Great Bear.

Two stars in Ursa Major, Dubhe and Merak, form the "pointer stars". If you draw a line through these two stars and extend it about five times the distance between them, you will reach Polaris, the North Star.
