  • The Moon's Origin: How It Formed From a Giant Impact
The Moon didn't "fly" into space. It formed alongside the Earth, billions of years ago. Here's how we think it happened:

    * Giant Impact: A Mars-sized object called Theia slammed into the young Earth. This impact was incredibly powerful and created a giant cloud of debris.

    * Formation of the Moon: The debris from the collision started orbiting the Earth, and over time, this material clumped together, forming the Moon.

So, the Moon wasn't launched into space. It was born from a catastrophic event in the early solar system.
