  • Sun, Earth & Moon: Shapes and Sizes Explained
Let's talk about the shapes and sizes of the Sun, Earth, and Moon:

    Sun:

    * Shape: The Sun is a giant ball of hot gas, primarily hydrogen and helium. Due to its immense gravity, it is nearly perfectly spherical.

    * Size: The Sun is HUGE. It's about 109 times wider than Earth and has a diameter of about 865,000 miles (1.4 million kilometers). It's so big that you could fit over 1 million Earths inside it!

    Earth:

    * Shape: While often depicted as a perfect sphere, Earth is actually an oblate spheroid. This means it's slightly flattened at the poles and bulging at the equator, due to its rotation.

    * Size: Earth is a medium-sized planet with a diameter of about 7,926 miles (12,756 kilometers).

    Moon:

    * Shape: Like Earth, the Moon is an oblate spheroid, although its flattening is less pronounced.

    * Size: The Moon is much smaller than Earth, with a diameter of about 2,159 miles (3,474 kilometers). It's about one-quarter the size of Earth.

    Comparing Sizes:

    * Imagine the Sun as a basketball. Earth would be about the size of a marble, and the Moon would be a tiny pea next to it.

    * The Sun is so massive that it accounts for 99.86% of the mass of our entire solar system!

Fun Fact: The Earth, Moon, and Sun are all constantly moving in space, but their relative positions are what cause the changing phases of the Moon and the seasons on Earth.
