    The infrared ray was discovered by Sir William Herschel in 1800.

    He was a British astronomer and musician who was studying the Sun's light using a prism. He noticed that there was a region beyond the red end of the visible spectrum that still emitted heat. This region, which we now know as infrared radiation, was invisible to the human eye.
