  • Sun's Hydrogen-Helium Ratio: Understanding the Change
The ratio of hydrogen and helium in the Sun is increasing in terms of helium and decreasing in terms of hydrogen.

    Here's why:

    * Nuclear Fusion: The Sun's energy comes from nuclear fusion reactions occurring in its core. The primary fusion reaction is the conversion of hydrogen (protons) into helium.

    * Hydrogen Consumption: As fusion continues, hydrogen is consumed, leading to a decrease in its abundance.

    * Helium Production: The fusion process produces helium as a byproduct, increasing its abundance.

Over time, the Sun will continue to convert hydrogen into helium, causing the ratio of hydrogen to helium to shift in favor of helium. This process will ultimately lead to the Sun's eventual death as a red giant.
