  • Moonlight: Where Does It Come From? - A Simple Explanation
The light we see from the Moon doesn't come from the Moon itself. It's actually reflected sunlight.

    Here's how it works:

    1. Sunlight: The Sun emits a huge amount of light and energy.

    2. Reflection: This sunlight travels through space and hits the Moon's surface. The Moon's surface, made up of dusty, rocky material, reflects some of this light back into space.

    3. Our view: A small portion of that reflected light reaches our eyes, making the Moon appear bright in the night sky.

So, the Moon is essentially a giant mirror, reflecting sunlight back to us. That's why we only see the Moon during the day or night when it's positioned in the sky to receive sunlight and reflect it back.
