* Formation: Stars form first from collapsing clouds of gas and dust. This process takes millions of years. After the star ignites, the leftover material in the disk around it forms planets over a much shorter timescale, typically tens to hundreds of millions of years.
* Lifespan: Stars are much larger and more massive than planets. This means they burn through their fuel much faster. While a star like our Sun has a lifespan of billions of years, planets can continue to exist long after their host star has died.
In essence, planets are formed from the leftover material after a star has been born. So, the star is always going to be older than any of its planets.
