  • Mars Atmosphere Composition: Gases Surrounding the Red Planet
    The Martian atmosphere is very thin and is composed primarily of:

    * Carbon dioxide (CO2): Makes up about 95% of the atmosphere.

    * Nitrogen (N2): About 2.6% of the atmosphere.

    * Argon (Ar): About 1.9% of the atmosphere.

    Other gases present in trace amounts include:

    * Oxygen (O2)

    * Carbon monoxide (CO)

    * Water vapor (H2O)

    * Neon (Ne)

    * Krypton (Kr)

    * Xenon (Xe)

    * Methane (CH4)

    It's important to note that the Martian atmosphere is much thinner than Earth's, with a surface pressure about 100 times lower. This makes it difficult for liquid water to exist on the surface, and contributes to the cold, dry climate of Mars.
