  • Gas Giants and Ice Giants: Understanding Planetary Atmospheres
There isn't a specific name for planets whose atmosphere is made up mostly of gases. However, we can categorize them based on their characteristics:

    * Gas Giants: These are planets with very thick atmospheres composed primarily of hydrogen and helium, with small, solid cores. Examples include Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

    * Ice Giants: Similar to gas giants, but their atmospheres are enriched with heavier elements like methane, ammonia, and water. Uranus and Neptune are considered ice giants.

    * Super-Earths: These are planets larger than Earth but smaller than gas giants. While their compositions vary, many have thick atmospheres primarily composed of hydrogen and helium, or other gases like methane or carbon dioxide.

It's important to remember that even planets with rocky surfaces can have substantial atmospheres. For example, Earth has a nitrogen-rich atmosphere, and Venus has a dense carbon dioxide atmosphere.

So, while there isn't a single name for planets with mostly gaseous atmospheres, they can be categorized based on their size, composition, and other characteristics.
