  • Moonlight Explained: How the Moon Reflects Sunlight
The Moon receives the light it reflects from the Sun.

The Moon itself doesn't produce any light. It's a large, rocky body in space that orbits the Earth. When sunlight hits the Moon's surface, some of it gets absorbed, and some of it gets reflected back into space. This reflected sunlight is what we see as moonlight.
