The North Star, also known as Polaris, is the brightest star in the constellation Ursa Minor (Little Dipper). It is called the Pole Star because it is very close to the celestial north pole, making it appear almost stationary in the sky.
So, while "North Star" and "Pole Star" are both common names for this particular star, they refer to the same celestial object.
