    The main component in most stars is hydrogen.

    Hydrogen makes up about 75% of the mass of a typical star, with helium making up another 24%. The remaining 1% is made up of all other elements.

    Stars like our sun fuse hydrogen into helium in their cores, releasing energy in the process. This process is what makes stars shine.
