  • Natural Satellites (Moons): Definition & Examples
A natural satellite that orbits a planet is called a moon.

    Here's why:

    * Natural: It means the satellite wasn't made by humans. It occurred naturally.

    * Satellite: It means an object orbiting another, larger object in space.

    * Planet: The larger object being orbited, like Earth, Mars, or Jupiter.

So, our own Moon is a natural satellite (moon) of Earth. Other planets in our solar system have multiple moons. For example, Jupiter has over 70 moons!
