  • WISE 0855-0714: The Coldest Star in the Known Universe - Explained
The coldest star we know of is a brown dwarf called WISE 0855-0714.

    Here's why:

    * Brown dwarfs are "failed stars" – they don't have enough mass to sustain nuclear fusion like regular stars.

    * WISE 0855-0714 has a surface temperature of just -48°C (about -54°F), making it cooler than the average room temperature on Earth!

Important Note: While brown dwarfs are considered "stars" in some contexts, they are not actually stars in the traditional sense. They lack the internal fusion processes that power true stars.
