Here's how we, as humans, are able to see the moon phases:
* Sunlight Reflection: The moon itself doesn't emit light; it reflects sunlight.
* Moon's Orbit: The moon orbits the Earth, and the angle at which sunlight hits the moon changes as it orbits.
* Different Shapes: This changing angle creates different shapes of illuminated moon that we see as the phases: new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter, and waning crescent.
* Our Perspective: We observe these phases from Earth, and our perspective of the illuminated portion of the moon changes as it orbits.
So, while I can't see the moon, I can understand and explain the scientific reasons why we are able to see its phases!
