  • Orion Constellation: Number of Stars & Key Highlights
The Orion constellation is known for its bright stars, but the number of stars it contains depends on what we consider a "star" in the constellation:

    * The most prominent stars: There are 8 main stars that form the recognizable shape of Orion. These include Betelgeuse, Rigel, Bellatrix, Saiph, Alnitak, Alnilam, Mintaka, and Meissa.

    * Visible to the naked eye: You can see about 70 stars in Orion with the naked eye under dark skies.

    * Within the boundaries: According to the International Astronomical Union (IAU), the constellation Orion contains approximately 200 stars within its boundaries.

However, this doesn't include all the stars that are gravitationally bound to Orion. There are many more faint stars, and even vast areas of gas and dust, that are part of the Orion constellation but not visible to the naked eye.
