  • Antarctic Darkness & Northern Hemisphere Summer: Understanding Seasonal Opposites
When the Antarctic Circle experiences 24 hours of darkness, it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

    Here's why:

    * The Earth's Tilt: The Earth is tilted on its axis, which is why we have seasons. During the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, the North Pole is tilted towards the sun, receiving maximum sunlight.

    * Polar Regions: The Antarctic Circle experiences 24 hours of darkness during the Northern Hemisphere's summer solstice. This is because the South Pole is tilted away from the sun at that time.

    * Opposite Seasons: Since the Earth is tilted, the hemispheres experience opposite seasons. When it's summer in the Northern Hemisphere, it's winter in the Southern Hemisphere, and vice versa.
