  • Star Temperatures: How Does a Star Compare to the Sun?
Not all stars are as hot as the Sun.

The Sun is a yellow dwarf star, which means it's a fairly average star in terms of size and temperature. There are stars that are:

    * Hotter than the Sun: These include blue giants and supergiants. They burn much hotter and have shorter lifespans than our Sun.

    * Cooler than the Sun: These include red dwarfs, which are much smaller and cooler than the Sun. They burn much more slowly and have much longer lifespans.

So, while the Sun is a very hot star, there are stars out there that are even hotter, and many that are much cooler.
