  • Understanding the Sun's Layers: What You're Really Seeing
When you look at the sun, you're actually seeing the photosphere.

    Here's why:

    * Photosphere: This is the visible surface of the sun. It's the layer that emits most of the sunlight we see.

    * Chromosphere: This layer lies above the photosphere and is only visible during solar eclipses or with special telescopes. It's a thin, reddish layer that's hotter than the photosphere.

    * Corona: This is the outermost layer of the sun's atmosphere, extending millions of kilometers into space. It's only visible during total solar eclipses and is incredibly hot.

While we can't see the chromosphere or corona with the naked eye, they're still important parts of the sun.

Important Note: Never look directly at the sun without proper eye protection. Doing so can cause serious eye damage.
