  • Discover the Brightest Star in the Big Dipper (and Why It's Not Polaris)
The brightest star in the Big Dipper is Polaris, also known as the North Star. However, Polaris is not actually part of the Big Dipper constellation. It is a separate star that happens to be located near the end of the Dipper's handle.

The brightest star within the Big Dipper itself is Dubhe, which is the star at the top of the Dipper's bowl.
