  • Equinoxes: When the Sun Aligns with the Celestial Equator
The sun is on the celestial equator at times of the equinoxes.

There are two equinoxes each year:

    * Vernal Equinox (Spring Equinox): Around March 20/21 in the Northern Hemisphere and September 22/23 in the Southern Hemisphere.

    * Autumnal Equinox (Fall Equinox): Around September 22/23 in the Northern Hemisphere and March 20/21 in the Southern Hemisphere.

During these equinoxes, the sun's rays shine directly on the equator, resulting in a near-equal distribution of daylight and nighttime across the globe.
