  • Orion Constellation: History & Ancient Origins
Orion, the constellation, wasn't "found" in the sense of a discovery. It has been recognized as a distinct pattern of stars for thousands of years, predating recorded history.

    Here's what we know:

    * Ancient Origins: Orion is one of the oldest recognized constellations, appearing in myths and stories from cultures all over the world, including Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, and China.

    * Early Documentation: Some of the earliest written records mentioning Orion date back to around 3000 BC in Mesopotamia.

    * Ancient Greek Mythology: The constellation is named after the hunter Orion in Greek mythology.

So, rather than a single moment of discovery, Orion has been a prominent part of the night sky for as long as humans have looked up and wondered about the stars.
