    The main difference between the geocentric and heliocentric models of planetary motion lies in what they place at the center of the solar system:

    Geocentric Model:

    * Earth-centered: This model, popularized by the ancient Greek philosopher Ptolemy, places Earth at the center of the universe.

    * Planets and Sun revolve around Earth: The Sun, Moon, and other planets were believed to orbit Earth in perfect circles.

    * Explanatory power: This model could reasonably explain the observed motions of celestial bodies, although it required complex and increasingly inaccurate calculations for its predictions.

    Heliocentric Model:

    * Sun-centered: This model, developed by Nicolaus Copernicus, places the Sun at the center of the solar system.

    * Earth and other planets revolve around Sun: The Earth, along with other planets, revolves around the Sun in elliptical orbits.

    * Simpler and more accurate: The heliocentric model offered a simpler and more accurate explanation of planetary motion, particularly the observed retrograde motion of planets.

    Historical Significance:

    The shift from the geocentric to the heliocentric model marked a major revolution in scientific thought. It challenged long-held beliefs and provided a more accurate understanding of the universe. Although Copernicus proposed the heliocentric model, it was the work of later astronomers like Galileo Galilei and Johannes Kepler that provided the observational evidence and mathematical framework to firmly establish it.
