  • Distance Between the Sun and Earth: A Clear Explanation
The Sun is not "near" Earth. It's actually quite far away.

    Here's why:

    * Distance: The Earth is approximately 93 million miles (150 million kilometers) from the Sun. This distance is called an Astronomical Unit (AU).

    * Scale: To put this into perspective, if the Sun were the size of a grapefruit, Earth would be the size of a poppy seed and would be about 15 meters (50 feet) away.

So, while the Sun is our closest star, it's still incredibly far away.
