  • Sputnik 2: The Spacecraft That Launched the First Living Organism into Orbit
The spacecraft that carried the first life into space was Sputnik 2, launched by the Soviet Union on November 3, 1957.

While Sputnik 1 was the first artificial satellite, Sputnik 2 carried a dog named Laika. Laika became the first living creature to orbit the Earth, though sadly, she did not survive the mission.
