  • IAU Dwarf Planet Reclassifications: Pluto, Eris & Makemake Explained
The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has redefined several celestial bodies as dwarf planets. However, there are only three that are widely recognized and often specifically mentioned:

    1. Pluto: This was the first to be reclassified in 2006, due to its inability to clear its orbital neighborhood of other objects.

    2. Eris: Discovered in 2005, it's actually slightly larger than Pluto and was a key factor in the IAU's redefinition of what constitutes a planet.

    3. Makemake: Another large Kuiper belt object, discovered in 2005, it's also been classified as a dwarf planet.

While there are other celestial bodies considered dwarf planets, these three are the most well-known and often used as examples.
