  • Moonlight: Does the Moon Produce Its Own Light?
The moon is not a source of light. It reflects light from the sun.

    Here's why:

    * The moon doesn't produce its own light: It doesn't have its own energy source like the sun does.

    * It reflects sunlight: The moon's surface is covered in dust and rock, which reflect the sunlight that falls on it.

    * We see the moon because of reflected sunlight: The reflected light from the sun is what makes the moon appear bright to us.

So, while the moon appears to shine, it's just acting like a giant mirror, reflecting the light from our nearest star.
