  • Venus vs. Jupiter: Which Planet Shines Brighter?
Jupiter is typically brighter than Venus in the night sky.

Venus is the brightest planet in our solar system, but it can only reach a magnitude of about -4.8.

Jupiter, on the other hand, can reach a magnitude of about -2.94.

Magnitude is a measure of brightness, with lower magnitudes indicating brighter objects. Therefore, even though Venus is the brightest planet overall, Jupiter can appear brighter in the night sky because it can achieve a lower magnitude.

However, brightness can fluctuate depending on the position of the planets in their orbits and the observer's location. There are times when Venus might appear brighter than Jupiter, especially when Venus is at its closest point to Earth.
