  • Sirius: The Brightest Star in the Night Sky (Besides the Sun)
The brightest star in the night sky, other than the Sun, is Sirius.

It's part of the constellation Canis Major (the Great Dog) and is often called the "Dog Star". Sirius is actually a binary star system, meaning it's two stars orbiting each other. The primary star, Sirius A, is a white dwarf star that's twice the mass of our Sun and shines with a blinding brilliance.
