  • Jupiter's Wind Speeds: Exploring the Great Red Spot and Jovian Atmospheres
The wind speeds on Jupiter are incredibly fast, reaching up to 400 miles per hour (644 kilometers per hour) in the Great Red Spot, a massive storm that has been raging for centuries.

    However, it's important to note:

    * Winds vary across the planet: Winds are strongest in the upper atmosphere, specifically in the jet streams that circle the planet. They weaken as you go deeper into Jupiter's atmosphere.

    * No solid surface: Jupiter is a gas giant, so "wind" is a bit of a misnomer. The swirling gas and storms create strong currents we perceive as wind.

So, while the Great Red Spot holds the record for the fastest winds on Jupiter, the average wind speed across the planet is around 224 miles per hour (360 kilometers per hour).
