  • Icarus: The Myth of Flying Too Close to the Sun - Greek Mythology Explained
The figure in Greek mythology who died when flown too close to the sun is Icarus.

He was the son of Daedalus, the inventor of the labyrinth, and was given wings made of feathers and wax to escape from Crete. Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, as the wax would melt. However, Icarus, caught up in the thrill of flight, disregarded his father's warning and soared too high. The sun's heat melted the wax, causing the wings to fall apart, and Icarus plummeted to his death.
