* Water vapor rises: Warm, moist air is less dense than dry air, so it rises. As it rises, it cools.
* Condensation: As the rising air cools, the water vapor within it reaches its dew point. This is the temperature at which the water vapor turns into liquid water.
* Cloud formation: Tiny water droplets condense around microscopic particles in the air called condensation nuclei. These droplets are so small they remain suspended in the air, forming a cloud.
So, while the atmosphere is a crucial component, it's the presence of water vapor that's the key ingredient for cloud formation.
