  • Large Magellanic Cloud: Shape, Structure & Galaxy Type
The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is classified as an irregular galaxy.

This means it doesn't have the well-defined spiral or elliptical shape of many other galaxies. It has a more chaotic, asymmetrical structure. While it does have some areas of spiral-like features, it lacks a distinct central bulge or clear spiral arms.

The LMC's irregular shape is likely due to its interaction with the Milky Way, our own galaxy. The LMC's proximity to the Milky Way has caused gravitational distortions, pulling and stretching its structure.
