    The 19th century astronomer who gave his name to a temperature scale is Anders Celsius.

    He developed the Celsius scale (originally called the centigrade scale) in 1742, where 0 degrees Celsius represents the freezing point of water and 100 degrees Celsius represents the boiling point of water at standard atmospheric pressure.
