  • Understanding the Sun's Atmosphere: Layers and Composition
    The Sun's atmosphere is called the solar atmosphere.

    It's actually divided into three distinct layers:

    * Photosphere: This is the visible surface of the Sun, the layer we see from Earth.

    * Chromosphere: This layer lies above the photosphere and is only visible during a total solar eclipse.

    * Corona: This is the outermost layer of the Sun's atmosphere, extending millions of kilometers into space. It is only visible during a total solar eclipse or with special instruments.
