  • What is a Planet? Definition and Characteristics
An object that orbits a star and does not produce its own light is called a planet.

    Here's why:

    * Planet: The definition of a planet includes orbiting a star and being massive enough to be rounded by its own gravity. Since it doesn't produce its own light, it reflects the light from the star.

    * Other Objects: Other objects in space that orbit stars include moons, asteroids, and comets. While these objects might reflect some light, they don't fit the definition of a planet.
