  • SOHO: Unraveling the Sun's Mysteries with the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory
SOHO stands for Solar and Heliospheric Observatory. It is a spacecraft designed to study the Sun and its influence on the heliosphere (the region of space dominated by the Sun's magnetic field and solar wind).

Here are some of its key scientific goals:

    * Study the Sun's internal structure and dynamics: SOHO uses various instruments to analyze the Sun's interior, including helioseismology (studying the Sun's vibrations), and to observe its surface and atmosphere.

    * Understand the origin and evolution of the solar wind: SOHO observes the solar wind (a stream of charged particles emitted by the Sun) and measures its properties.

    * Investigate solar activity: SOHO tracks sunspots, flares, coronal mass ejections, and other solar phenomena that can affect Earth and other planets.

    * Study the Sun's magnetic field: SOHO observes the Sun's magnetic field and its influence on the solar wind and other phenomena.

SOHO is a joint mission between the European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA. It was launched in 1995 and continues to operate today, providing invaluable insights into the Sun and its effects on our solar system.
