  • Democritus: The Father of Atomic Theory - 400 BC
The first atomic theory is generally attributed to Democritus, a Greek philosopher who lived around 400 BC.

While his ideas were based on philosophical reasoning rather than scientific experimentation, he proposed that matter was made up of indivisible particles called "atomos" (meaning "uncuttable"). He believed that all matter was composed of different combinations of these atoms.
