  • Circumpolar Stars: Where to Find (and Not Find) Them
You would see the least number of circumpolar stars at the equator.

    Here's why:

    * Circumpolar stars are stars that never set below the horizon as viewed from a particular location. They appear to circle around the celestial pole.

    * The number of circumpolar stars you see depends on your latitude.

    * At the North Pole, all stars are circumpolar.

    * At the equator, *no* stars are circumpolar because the celestial poles are directly overhead, and all stars rise and set.

As you move away from the poles towards the equator, the number of circumpolar stars decreases.
