  • Uranus Landing: Why No Astronaut Has Set Foot on the Ice Giant
There has never been an astronaut who has landed on Uranus (or any other planet besides the Moon).

    Here's why:

    * Uranus is extremely cold and hostile: The temperature on Uranus is about -214 degrees Celsius (-353 degrees Fahrenheit), making it impossible for humans to survive.

    * Extreme distance: Uranus is very far from Earth, making it extremely challenging and expensive to send humans there.

    * No known technology exists: We currently don't have the technology to send humans on such a long and demanding mission.

All missions to Uranus have been robotic probes, like the Voyager 2 spacecraft which flew past Uranus in 1986.
