  • Telescopes: How They Collect and Focus Light (and Other Radiation)
    Most telescopes collect and focus light.

    While there are some telescopes that collect other forms of electromagnetic radiation, such as radio telescopes that collect radio waves, the vast majority of telescopes are designed to capture and focus light in the visible spectrum. This allows us to observe distant objects in space and learn about their composition, temperature, and motion.
